Bomb Squad in Satellite Beach

SATELLITE BEACH---  The Brevard County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad was called to the corner of Norwood and Thyme Avenue this afternoon to investigate a suspicious object.  The item was located by a Satellite Beach Public Works employee in a field he was mowing adjacent to the Satellite Beach Police Department headquarters, and identified as a possible pipe bomb.
Bomb squad officers were able to  safely detonate the item according to protocol.
The discovery and detonation disrupted dismissal at Surfside Elementary, located one block south.  Thyme Road and Cinnamon Road were closed to all traffic, and pedestrians were re-routed.  The investigation is ongoing.

  1. For a second there, I thought the bomb squad got a little time off. I already pictured them under an aluminium marquee by the sea.
