SATELLITE BEACH, Florida-- Voters will have the opportunity to hear from candidates running for Mayor and City Council at two upcoming political forums, to be held at the Scotty Culp Municipal Complex (565 Cassia Blvd, Satellite Beach, FL 32937). An additional meeting is planned to discuss pending ballot initiatives.
The first of the events will be held Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00pm, and is sponsored by the Brevard Conservative Coalition, a group associated with the Brevard Tea Party. A non-partisan moderator will host the event, with opportunities for residents to submit questions and interact with candidates.
An additional non-partisan forum, sponsored by the GFWC Satellite Beach Woman's Club (a local non-profit service organization), will be held Tuesday, October 23 at 7:00pm. The public is encouraged to attend, and submit questions for candidates on a 3x5 card. No questions will be taken from the floor. A non-partisan moderator has been selected. There will also be a collection of non-perishable food items for the World Food Day food drive.
Mayoral candidates include Frank Catino and Trevor Lowing. Candidates running for two City Council seats include Mark Brimer, Lloyd French, Lorraine Gott, and Scott Rhodes.
The Half Cent Sales Tax referendum, also on the November ballot, will be the subject of an informational meeting also scheduled for Tuesday, October 16. That meeting will be hosted by principals from Satellite Beach High School and Surfside Elementary. The meeting will take place at 6:30pm in the DeLaura/Satellite High School Media Center (300 Scorpion Court, Satellite Beach, FL 32937). The public is welcome.
Tuesday, October 9, is the final day for voters to register to vote in the election.
